Welcome To Troop 451

Scout Troop 451 Grayslake is part of the Northeast Illinois Council (NEIC) of the Boy Scouts of America. We meet on Wednesday nights from 7-8:30 pm at United Protestant Church at 54 South Whitney Street in Grayslake Illinois.

Our troop’s goal is to train young people in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations. Scouting values such as trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoor skills are developed through a variety of activities such as camping, hiking, and aquatics.

Boy Scout Troop 451 started out in 1998 as a lead to the council for Cub Scout Pack 451, which was started in the early 1990’s. At its start, the troop was small with only seven members: two leaders and five scouts. Most of what the troop did at that point was camping. Over time, the troop has grown and currently  has over 50 people, including both leaders and scouts. Our troop has produced more than twenty Eagle Scouts to date. Troop 451 has become a great success mainly due to the Troop Committee and the leaders who have gone through many hours of training. Also, because we have more members, we can do everything a larger troop can.

Our troop has had five different Scoutmasters in our history. The first, by the name of John Schirali, started as Scoutmaster in the year we started-1998. Our second Scoutmaster, Mr. Eric Stahl, took over as leader in 2002. Then, in 2004, Mr. Terry Powers. After him came Mr. Bob Bonczar in the year 2005. Then, in 2009, Mr. Jeff Wells took the job of Scoutmaster, followed by Mr. Stahl again in 2011, and later Mr. Llamas, who remains our leader at this time. We also have, at this time, about four Assistant Scoutmasters that help the troop run smoothly.
